They then one-starred it, saying they didn't like it. It happens to everyone I suppose, but what goes through these people's heads?Dean Crawfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05592445123854138758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32886235.post-18314358149891320222012-03-28T09:31:38.234+01:002012-03-28T09:31:38.234+01:00Nice points, Dean and I'm sure you 're rig...Nice points, Dean and I'm sure you 're right, but there's no pleasing everyone. Some people read books that are not their "thing" and then complain that you didn't write "their" kind of book!
JenJen Blackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12628305777383099281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32886235.post-76993078529576798282012-03-19T16:23:30.162+00:002012-03-19T16:23:30.162+00:00I haven't watched either of those shows but I ...I haven't watched either of those shows but I think one of the things that make a difference in your hero/heroine is the originality of their background. The 'born with' abilities or finding out they were born to a important/famous/powerful family or born to fulfill some kind of prophecy etc...is so over done that yes, you have to have someone or something really original in order for that to work I think. And if the hero kind of works his way up to hero status-even better.Creepy Query Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18115161057496086972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32886235.post-29927910880426588922012-03-19T16:11:58.110+00:002012-03-19T16:11:58.110+00:00Excellent points, Dean. I do think a lot of it is down to personal preference, though.

That aside, I'm fine with characters as long as they behave in the way the author has developed. Nothing makes me crazier than a character all of sudden doing something that just doesn't make sense.Talli Rolandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04780882465745107715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32886235.post-13380887098147780892012-03-14T20:29:41.560+00:002012-03-14T20:29:41.560+00:00I find that the characters start to shape themselv...I find that the characters start to shape themselves over time, and then I take that rough outline and try to develop it more within the confines of the story. My original weakness with characters was females. At the time i had a female agent and she kept pointing out that my ladies were a little 2D and not inspiring enough, or they would be great for a while, then have an utterly vapid moment when it came to the crunch. So i started working on my character development as a priority. The plots are easy, comparatively, but getting the characters just right is the key. It's a little easier for me as i write first person, so i get the full character thoughts/feelings etc, but it's also tough because the other main characters have to be seen through me main character's preception and i have to factor that in.

Mind you, i suppose if writing was easy then everyone would do it...Paul Grzegorzekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12706568638861360310noreply@blogger.com
